Depoimentos sobre o Selo IDC

Project summary

Vozes do Território is a pilot project for territorial development through culture and cultural diversity, designed by the CSSC Network for Mogi Guaçu, Mogi Mirim, Itapira, and Estiva Gerbi (State of São Paulo, Brazil). Over a 12-month period, the project brings together companies, public authorities, schools, cultural stakeholders, civil society, and residents to identify, document, transmit, and promote the histories, memories, heritage, talents, and cultural expressions of the four cities. The first cycle is structured around two areas of action: Memory, Living Heritage and Education, in which children and teenagers transform research about their territory into educational and audiovisual content; and Music, Local Talent and Community Communication, dedicated to promoting artists and cultural stakeholders, training, and audiovisual production. The project culminates in the Vozes do Território Festival, a moment of celebration and sharing results with the community, and includes a system of indicators to assess its results and lay the groundwork for its continuation, expansion, and/or replication.

Project objectives in terms of promoting cultural diversity

Vozes do Território aims to strengthen cultural diversity, a sense of belonging, and residents’ active participation by identifying, documenting, transmitting, and promoting the histories, memories, heritage, talents, and cultural expressions of the territory. Its main objectives are to:
  • Promote the territory’s cultural diversity and heritage. Identify and give visibility to histories, memories, tangible and intangible heritage, talents, and cultural expressions, including those that are still little known or recognized.
  • Place residents at the heart of the project. Children, teenagers, young people, artists, residents, and communities participate in researching, producing, and transmitting narratives about their own territories.
  • Connect memory, education, and contemporary creation. The project brings together two complementary areas of action: (1) Memory, Living Heritage and Education and (2) Music, Local Talent and Community Communication.
  • Strengthen connections among the four cities. The initiative seeks to reveal both the distinctive characteristics of each municipality and the histories, memories, and relationships that connect them.
  • Promote cooperation among companies, public authorities, and civil society. The project brings together municipalities, companies, schools, cultural stakeholders, organizations, and residents around shared objectives.
  • Generate measurable impact and prospects for continuity. Quantitative and qualitative indicators will make it possible to assess results and generate insights to support the project’s continuation, expansion, and/or replication.

Values promoted by the project

  • Cultural diversity. Recognition and promotion of the plurality of histories, identities, communities, and cultural expressions across the territory.
  • Sense of belonging. Strengthening residents’ connections with their cities, histories, and communities.
  • Active participation. Direct involvement of residents, particularly children, teenagers, and young people.
  • Intergenerational dialogue. Bringing together children, young people, families, residents, and holders of local memories and knowledge.
  • Access and visibility. Increasing the visibility of local artists, talents, communities, histories, and cultural expressions.
  • Territorial cooperation. Coordination among the municipalities and among public authorities, companies, educational institutions, civil society, and cultural stakeholders.
  • Sustainable development. Integrating culture and cultural diversity into education, inclusion, creativity, and sustainable territorial development.
